When his girlfriend packs up her social activism and walks out on him, the high-powered banker is freed to pursue other aspirations – promotion, a bigger bonus and a younger woman. But he's about to lose it all. Friends, career, reputation and self-respect all fall victim to the unexpected and he learns that millions aren’t always what a man needs out of life.

About Simon

Originally from New Zealand, Simon is a recovering lawyer who calls Hong Kong home. Since stepping down from full time legal practice he has completed an MFA in creative writing and a PhD in English literature at City University.

 

His first novel, A Wasting Asset was published in 2016. Drawing heavily on knowledge of the financial world gained through his professional experience, A Wasting Asset follows a high-end banker dodging scandals, the bank's senior management, rivals, regulators and girlfriends as he attempts to make a fortune in Hong Kong's turbulent financial markets.  

 

A Debt to Pay and A Road to Follow, the first two novels in the Daughter of the Winds young adult fantasy series, were published in 2023 and 2024. A Mistake to Compound, the third novel in the series, will be published later this year.

Simon regularly contributes short stories to Hong Kong Writers Circle anthologies. Other short stories have been published in CultureCult, Mystery Tribune, MetaStellar, The Chamber, Teleport Magazine, Literally Stories and The Apostrophe. His short story Tattoo Me has been translated into Chinese and published in Resonate in 2021.

 

Simon has had the privilege of teaching creative writing at City University for two semesters as well as conducting university and school visits. He previously served as secretary of the Hong Kong Writers Circle.
